The Chians have always maintained and nurtured their own local customs and traditions, and because of this, Chios is an Island with a fascinating wealth of cultural activity and living tradition.

Chios tradition is filled with festivals celebrating saints, holidays and important events that mark the local history. In Thymiana they celebrate Mostra, a memorial to those who fought pirates and invaders in same time with the Greek Carnival. It is marked by traditional dance, sounds and rhythm from traditional instruments, live performances of music and, most famously, masquerade parade.
