For second consecutive year, Chios Cooking Lessons are ready to provide our quests with a hands-on delightful cooking experience at Kampos area of Chios. This year, we will continue to offer what make us one of the most tasteful attractions at Kampos. Fresh local ingredients for each of our recipes, relaxing atmosphere, savoring dishes and an experience you cannot afford to miss.
Since we were called to host “Goats on the Road” for organizing a Cooking class, we have decided to avoid any kind of meat into our cooking and to delve deeper into traditional Chios recipes and methods of preparations.
Goats on the Road are Nick and Dariece, two Canadians with great sense of humor, very friendly and researchers of the authentic beyond the ordinary touristic paths. They are writing their thoughts and experiences traveling around the globe into their blog: “GoatsontheRoad.com”
Since their arrival at Astrakia mansion where Chios Cooking Lessons are taking place, they were asking for a beer. It was noon and they were coming straight from the bikes of Goat Trails, with whom we are providing the event: “Experience Kampos”. Almost 2 hours of strolling the narrow alleys of Kampos with the guidance of Triantafilia who owns Goat Trails, was good enough for them to get a taste of Kampos and for us to serve them cold Fresh Chios Beer. Ouzo was not their favorite and we kept the Mastiha coffee along with a shot of Mastiha liqueur for the end.
Our Cooker Theodora start what she knows to do best: Cooking. Together with Nick, Dariece, Triantafilia, Maria and Pedro they were preparing the menu for the lunch: Marathokeftedes, Sfouggato, Greek salad, Chios style handmade pasta (Herisia makaronia) and giaprakia (stuffed wine leaves aka dolmades).
Beer, photos, videos and a lot of fun was the seasoning of this gathering, a place you would love to be with your friends. Ending up on a big table, all of us (cookers and not) we were savoring the results of this lesson with cold beer and lots of laugh.
We were discussing Nick and Dariece’s experience of Chios and they were surprised with the opposite picture they are getting from media all over the world who are selling fear and misery in huge quantities: OK, refuges are here but this fact proves once again the hospitality of Chians who opened their arms from the very beginning to the refuges unable to understand the political crisis and the political games of both governmental and Non-governmental organizations on this issue.
We say” geia mas” and good bye with a Mastiha Coffee and a Mastiha liqueur while they were filling their goodie bag with local products offered by RealChios’s friends.
If you want also to “Experience Kampos” on bikes with Goat Trails and on your plates with Chios Cooking Lessons just get in touch with us and we will do our best to turn your day into a memorable experience with will last long on your scrapbook.
