A Culinary Journey in Greece is a great way to unveil secrets well hidden inside kitchens and handwritten books passing from mother to daughter and grandmother to granddaughter.
Greece is listed among the top 10 destinations with the world’s best food. For some, holidays offer the perfect opportunity to get out of the kitchen and let someone else prepare your meals. But for the foodies and apprentice chefs among us, a few days away provides a prime opportunity to pick up a few cooking skills and shake the feeling that you’re an amateur in your own kitchen. After all, learning how to prepare delicious fried zucchini balls outlasts any souvenir in your scrapbook, not to mention it’s a great way to experience a new culture.
With that in mind, RealChios has rounded up few itineraries for the best cooking vacations. From rural and Genovese Kampos to seaside and delving into crystal blue Aegean waters Lithi and Vokaria, these epicurean hotspots feature all the key ingredients necessary to appease your taste buds, with cooking classes, tours and, of course, memorable handcrafted meals. One whiff of these dishes and you’re sure to feel inspired to book your next culinary escape.

Details of the Culinary Journeys
This week is all about gastronomy. We will find out about the main Chios products: cheese, mastiha, wine and honey. Learn to use numerous vegetables and wild herbs the way our grandmothers did. Pick vegies from the olive farm and cook your dinner with our cook. Visit artisan producers, sample honey, wine, olives, collect herbs and produce cheese.
Discover the traditional Chios, the flavor of bread baked into wooden oven and try many different cheese varieties. It’s all about simple, sustainable and natural food.
Accommodation, meals and going around
We have two options to accommodate us for those Culinary Journeys: A traditional rural farm in Kampos or a modern complex of apartments and maisonettes few meters by the sea of Vokaria. There is where most of our cooking classes will take place.
We love cycling so we will have bicycles available for you but for the long trips we have included in the itinerary you can use the car we are providing for the all stay or you can simply ask our driver to get you around on your free time. While cars will be available for some trips we will use a mini bus so all to be together.
Your meals have all been carefully selected by us; we have made sure that you’ll get to try all the right flavors and combinations.
Highlights of the week
• A full-on experience of every aspect of the local gastronomy.
• Chios Cooking Lessons, so you learn and take home new skills
• Visits to artisan food producers here will really get you under the skin of life in alternative Chios and help you appreciate why socializing is so centered around food.
Chios Cooking Lessons
The holiday includes three hands-on cookery sessions based on Greek and Mediterranean cuisine spiced up with Chios products and ingredients. During the lessons you will get a chance to sample a selection of Greek wines with some produced by local grape varieties.
Visits and Excursions
We have organized excursions for the week. Some to artisan producers so that you can get to know how the main Chios products are made, the traditional way.
You will understand why we get to cook with so many aromatic herbs rather than spices. Depending on the season we will also have the chance to participate in different harvests and other cultural events i.e. Mastiha cultivation, an UNESCO’s intangible heritage of Humanity, Chios SeptemberFest, Food & Wine Paths etc.
