The story started to unfold approximately in 1910 when Pantelis Kokkinakis set off for Russia in order to become an apprentice confectioner near some already settled family members in Odessa. Later on his career takes off when he moves to Poland… In 2014, the pharmacist Dimitrios Kokkinakis, Pantelis’s grandson, establishes K.S.A (Kokkinakis Sugar Art) aiming at offering high quality handmade candy products without sugar.
Dyo-dyo and the Greek Countryside
The bio-chemical constitution of our candy products is mainly based on Isomalt, which is manufactured from sugar cane. The shape of our candies was inspired by the form of the crude resin of the Chios Mastic Gum. The coloring of the mastic and the mastic-mint flavor candies has been inspired by the volcanic pebble beach of “Mavra Volia” and “Agia Dynami” respectively which are both in the immediate vicinity of the picturesque, medieval Mastic Villages of Chios.
Sweet BUT Dentally Safe Candies
Given that the dyo-dyo confectionery products do not contain sugar, K.S.A in collaboration with the Centre of Dental Medicine of the University of Zurich carried out a study in which it is clearly illustrated that our candies DO NOT cause dental problems.
Clinically Tested for Diabetics
The dyo-dyo candies have been clinically tested in order to determine whether they can be safely consumed by diabetics. The study conducted by the Diabetic Research Centre of the Ygeia Hospital demonstrated that for the consumption of 25 g of K.S.A’s dyo-dyo candies, the Glycaemic Index was approximately 3.5 times lower compared to the lowest international standard according to the most recent scientific bibliography entries (which is <55). In addition, it was confirmed that their Glycaemic Load was 10 times inferior to the lowest international standard which is <11. It is equally important to point out that the patients who consumed 25 g of the dyo-dyo confectionery products did not develop any gastrointestinal problems, which is a common symptom after the consumption of sweeteners
